SETTING ENGAGEMENT

SETTING ENGAGEMENT
BLANKET PERMISSIONS
Players do not have to ask permission to thwart or cause villainy. Our assumption is that as this is a superhero game in a world where superpowered people have existed for decades, daily life is going to involve supervillains and general mayhem.
Examples of things that do not require permission or engagement requests.
You are welcome to have your characters interact with the game's NPCS at any time.

Examples of things that do not require permission or engagement requests.
You develop an NPC villain for a log! This villain doesn't cause any major damage or many casualties. Maybe they have a de-aging ray, they give people temporary amnesia, turn people temporarily into animals, etc. You are welcome to use these for temporary effects.
Your character steals anything up to 5000 dollars. You can assume that they got away with this, or if they were caught, the guild paid law enforcement to look the other way.
Your character uses their powers to heal or change another character or player created NPC. This is a superhero game after all. We expect you to be using your powers and testing them.
Your character invents a tiny teleporter that jumps between their house and their friends house. This technology exists and is normalized in this world. We encourage players to create their own systems like this.
You are welcome to have your characters interact with the game's NPCS at any time.
SETTING ENGAGEMENT
The Metaheroes setting is designed to be interacted with. Our approach to this is best compared to a tabletop roleplay system. Your character will take an action and the mod team will provide you with the outcome of that action.
You do not need to pre-plan these actions. You're free to approach us as they evolve in threads to ask the consequences of your characters actions. Some of these consequences will be immediate, and others will appear down the line. Some may be expanded into full blown player plots.
Please note that these engagements are developed as ongoing storylines. We gently discourage players to rush to a conclusion as they're designed to be evolving based on character actions. We'd like to know how your characters are reacting, what actions they're taking, etc. We encourage reporting back to us with any developments or changes your characters are making to their approach, we will adjust the plot and add new elements accordingly.
To better keep track of these engagements, please reply to the corresponding monthly top level. You can continue to reply to that comment thread if your plot extends out from the month it begins in. Or you can begin a new one and link to the previous one if it helps you better track your character's specific movements through the months.

Your character kills someone. If they're a hero, are they reporting themselves to the authorities? The mod team needs to know how your character is handling the body.
Your character tries to use their powers to heal, harm, manipulate a Mod NPC.
You want your character to dismantle a major crime syndicate.
You want your character to develop a following / a cult / etc.
You want your character to steal everyone's left shoe.
You want your character to enter a pact with a God and become their champion.
You want your character to gain power and influence.
You want your character to learn the magic native to the setting.
A character or group of characters stage(s) participate in a conflict that destroys a city block. There may be fallout, fines, and a loss of public favor for this.
You want your character to open up a business.
A character or group of characters engage with a mod-run NPC character, guild, or business. The NPCs will react accordingly and their opinion of your character will change.
A character uses a baby ray on important political figures to take over the tri-state area. You need to inform the mods to find out whether or not you're successful or if you're thwarted by Perry the Platypus.

MOD PERMISSION REQUESTS
Actions that will significantly affect or impact the game must be run by the mod team before being introduced into play.
These would be things that alter the shared setting of the game environment in a way that cannot be easily ignored.
For this, we ask players to visit the PLAYER PLOT & Mod Permission page. Below is an example of actions that go beyond consequence reporting or investigation. You can use this page to develop a plot in this direction, but these actions cannot be taken until approval has been given.
These actions are still doable! However, as they may greatly impact the setting and may count as mini events, we ask players submit them on the Player Plot page.

A character is killed and not revived two hours after their death. Characters will still revive after this happens. However, this must be brought to the mod team.
Your character installs surveillance equipment around town that would allow them to spy on NPCs or player characters. This would require a permissions post and a post on the OOC comm to notify players that it has occurred.
Your character destroys established areas of the setting. Guild HQs, established landmarks, or large parts of the cities.
Your character causes mass casualties.
Your character enters an agreement with a God / Demon for power (outside of an event).
Your character kills an Mod Created NPC.
Your character kills and becomes a God.
Your character breaks Guild Law.
Your character tries to go to the Underworld.
Your character attempts to destabilize the guilds or government.
These actions are still doable! However, as they may greatly impact the setting and may count as mini events, we ask players submit them on the Player Plot page.

What are her talent agent Dolores' thoughts on Hibiki being in a relationship? Is this something that's fine or do we have a "Idols arent allowed to date" situation? Follow-up question... could I possibly ask for help on who Dolores Dahl is as an NPC? If this isn't asking too much, that is.

For Dolores, we can suggest two character templates to choose from. The first would be something akin to Mrs Trunchbull from Matilda. Overbearing and authoritative, but effective at getting the results she wants through sheer force of personality. For the second, something like Zira from the Lion King who will put on a sweet and motherly facade though she is anything but.

This complicates things a fair bit, since as of right now, there are a good number of us and the current situation is almost pressuring towards further involvement with little room for any handwaving.
I ended up spending a month trying to think of a solution before realizing that I should've probably just brought this up here right away. Oops.
I know this is probably unorthodox and maybe even flakey, but is it possible for a change of course in this particular setting engagement towards an easier situation overall? Whether via some mild retconning or actually finding a solution in-universe. I understand if that's a no-go, but basically, I'd like to find a way to make things easier on Hibiki—and by extension, us oocly.
I hope I've explained in a way that's coherent, and thank you for your time, mods!

So, there may be some misunderstanding. There is no right answer in this situation, and "solution" may be the wrong word. In Setting Engagement, we ask players to poke the world and then based upon that poking, provide prompts for you to use in your own plotting. There is no real solution in mind with these, only reacting to what your character is doing and helping further their personal storyline. If this means that, as a result of all of this, Hibiki's castmates feel they need to curse her manager out, then that is what happens and we encourage it! The secondary goal is of the plotting post, beyond furthering the engagers individual storyline, is for things to ripple out and give other characters something to do as well. If they want to go after the meta-Idol industry and tear it down from the inside and rebuild it, then we will absolutely facilitate this.
If your castmates do not want to go that route, then we can talk about a solution that would not involve them feeling as though they need to engage. For example, we are happy for there to be a scenario where Hibiki is "benched" for an extended vacation because her manager feels that she is oversaturated in the market and less is more. We could handwave she receives a promotion and moves away from directly working with clients, and Hibiki could then switch managers to someone who is less aggressive and more caring.
But to be clear, we have no problem with her castmates and friends revolting and pushing back against Hibiki's working conditions. Whether this is by trashing the manager on social media, or to her face - we are happy to roll with the punches. Setting engagement is all about creative reactions. There are absolutely no wrong answers to any of this, this is all in the name of furthering character storylines, and so long as we know what way you want the cards to fall, we can work the resulting reaction to whatever the character does to accommodate that.
We hope this helps!

Chris coming down hard on Hibiki's manager would be met with some contempt from the manager. However, no one would prevent it from happening. The manager would be willing to hand Hibiki off to someone else, or negotiate to assist in her work/life balance. But this would be discussed with Hibiki herself.
Could Odd-Eyes let us know where they would like to take Hibiki from here? This way we can provide any further information as needed.

In terms of where I'd like to take Hibiki from here, ideally the main idea is for Hibiki to negotiate a better work life balance, and if that requires going to someone else for that, then that's fine as well. She needs to be able to actually be able to consistently keep up being both a hero and famous singer. She enjoys both! But it needs to not leave her too tired to feasibly get involved in anything else.
I imagine that with Chris with her, she'll actually think to negotiate for better terms rather than just accepting the first options she's given.

Given the situation at hand and the potential of losing Hibiki entirely, her agent will be willing to make accommodations so her work/life balance is more balanced. At first, it will sound as if she is listening to Hibiki's concerns, but when offering solutions they will be offering the bare minimum. Offers of extra paid time off with prior approval (and who knows when that will happen) and more decision making abilities when it comes to spacing out concerts and choosing interviews. All of these offers will come with "when timing allows" and "with prior approval".
However, it won't take long for her to give a little more-paid time off, having Hibiki sign off on the concert schedule instead of simply foisting it off onto her, making sure she has at least two days off a week without any obligations, etc.
